Nether Glenny

Nether Glenny Farm is nestled in the Menteith hills in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. A rural retreat although only a short scenic drive to Aberfoyle and Stirling.

The 84 acre hillside farm has been in our care for the past 9 years during which we have changed the focus from sheep to cattle.

We grow and raise grass fed beef from a mixture of Highland and Short Horn native breeds.

As well as the farm we have diversified to create quality holiday accommodation from what was once the cattle barns.

Merlin, Kestrel and Buzzard sit within the four acres of the farm’s gardens whilst the Nether Glenny Bothy is a unique off grid dwelling some 300m from the farmhouse nestled in the Menteith hills.

The farm is home to the Woods family, 3 children 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 pet sheep, two Sandy Black pigs and a small flock of peacocks.

We are proud of our Green credentials and happy to let you know that we save 19 tons of carbon per annum through using a biomass system to heat the farmhouse, cottages and water at the farm.

We enjoy sharing our farming vision through small 4 x 4 off road farm tours explaining the why and how we farm and our plans for even greener aspirations.

We look forward to sharing Nether Glenny Farm with you!

What makes us special

Our ‘dine in’ menu.
Whether it's Matt's venison sourced from the local hills or Alison's homemade crumble made with fresh fruit picked from the farm, we’ll prepare delicious meals which can be purchased from us during your stay or prior to arrival. We offer a selection of pre made frozen dishes for you to enjoy at any time during your stay; simply defrost, pop into the oven and follow our cooking instructions. Of course we all have our personal preferences of veggies and trimmings so you can add those yourself.

The most popular of our dishes is Venison casserole which is locally sourced & fully traceable meat from our hillside to plate. We also have a range of delicious plant based meals.

Fly fishing on the lake of Menteith
The 700 acre Lake of Menteith is the main venue for the National Fly fishing Championships in Scotland. The Lake is stocked weekly. Guests can rent our boat and have private use of the boat house.

Our location is quite amazing ( if we say so ourselves ) we overlook the Lake of Menteith and are nestled in the hills. The Bothy is very secluded; there are literally no neighbours at all.

We make jams and chutneys with Nether Glenny fruit: damson, plums, black and red currants and so much more. Our fruit is also used in the dessert recipes for our ‘ dine in’ menu.

Our farm tours are very much a private affair. With a maximum of 4 guests / tour it is literally a private experience. Not only a farm tour as Matt takes our guests on an off road trip into the hills to visit sites of neolithic markings as well as dwellings from the Highland clearances. We have embarked on an agroforestry project in collaboration with the National Park and also The Soil Association Scotland. Matt and the kids have planted over 300 native trees so far.
